This book is a true treasure trove of fascinating, entertaining and scandalous stories about historic figures. After reading this book... upon reflection... I had to wonder... "Why in the HECK didn't the peasant rise up and rebel against their rulers MORE OFTEN?! It truly staggers the mind male and female princes remained in power? After all, the peasants did far outnumber the royals through out history. It doesn't amaze me how these people got into power (after all nepotism was not just an injustice it was a WAY OF LIFE)... what leaves me scratching my head is why these debauched characters managed to REATAIN power. The author truly has a wonderful sense of humor and the witty, biting titles for each story had me in rapt anticipation. If you like this book you'll love the others (offered by the same author) as well. Enjoy!Read full review

Michael Farquhar scores again with this book of scandals in this expose of the House of the Royals. Not just England but Germany, France, Austria and so many other countries are covered here. Each story seems to end with a lead in to the next so that you feel that "Gee, I knew that was a chapter but I want to read what happens next." In other words a real page turner that is filled with humor and intrique. I would say that this read is like discovering a "Royal Treasure Chest" excuse my pun please.
Good concept but the stories tend to be monotonous and use way too many different names with references back to this or that chapter. Not organized very well, and stories aren't as scandalous as I hoped for.
Awesome, quick read! Very interesting facts. If you love history, it's a great alternative to some of the more boring historical books.
