I bought the CD on recommendation of a friend but also due to the price. Having grown up with Elton John songs spanning 20 plus years, I have to agree it's a fabulous collection which has grown on me! Each artist has re-created these magnificent tracks in their own style - particularly George Michael with Tonight - I think Elton should be very proud! I dislike just 2 tracks, Kate Bush's interpretation of Rocket Man and Sinead O'Connor's of Sacrifice, sadly ruining both for me... Overall 14 out of 16 isn't bad!
I had recently listened to Rocket Man which had been sung (Covered) by Kate Bush in the early 1990's and loved the variations of it & recently discovered that the Two Rooms compilation was available & began listening to the various other artists with their versions of the well known songs written by Elton John et-al & discovered that these had (in my opinion) often sounded/sung better then Elton John himself & would recommend to anyone who listens to Elton John's work & has not heard of the Two Rooms album before, to do so! As artists such as Joe Cocker,Tina Turner,Rod Stewart,Sinead O'Connor & Oleta Adams to name just a few brings a different dimension to the song/tracks.
I had previously bought this album on a tape back when it was first released, and bought the CD version recently. I'm not a great fan of Elton John's singing, but this album with the different Artists singing his songs is really good, and I love the way that even the music has a different twist to it. Kate Bush's version on 'Rocket Man' at first is strange but it is one of those songs that grows on you and you find yourself humming the tune in your head hours later. Sinead O'Connor's 'Sacrifice' is beautifully haunting, whilst The Beach Boys singing 'Crocodile Rock' was made for them. Most of the album is thoroughly enjoyable, it depends on whether you enjoy all the Artists', the handy thing with the CD version is that you can skip the ones your not so keen on, Sting and Phil Collins are my tracks that I don't enjoy as I think they sound very bland. Tina Turner singing 'The Bitch is Back' is excellent, along with Wilson Phillips version of 'Daniel', and I think Oleta Adams version of 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' is the best cover of that song I have heard. If your not an Elton John Fan you will still enjoy this album, I enjoy listening to it in the car as it is a great chill out Album and always relaxes me (especially with children in the car as well!). It has a good variety of songs and I think all the Artists bring justice to Elton John and Bernie Taupin songs.Read full review
This is such a lovely cd. I can't imagine why I didn't buy it before. I bought it primarily to get Kate Bush's recording of 'Rocket Man' but there are many more greats on this collection including Tina Turner doing a killer version of 'The Bitch Is Back' and the wonderful Oleta Adams (best known for 'Get Here')performing a stunning version of 'Don't Bring The Sun Down'. There's not really a bad track on this cd and with each listening I'm learning to love every track. It's a tribute to the writing of Elton John and Bernie Taupin that these songs sound so great in these new versions.
A good album celebrating the music of Elton John and Lyics of Bernie Taupin, I especially love the final Track called 'Tonight' which is sung by George Micharl, it's just amazing and pure genius.
