A childhood memory re-lived
I bought this DVD because I well remeber seeing the film in the cinema aged 12. It impressed me then and I think that it encouraged a life long interest in Opera. Re visiting it now was for me a great experience. Yes - it is terribly dated. I found the very "correct" english singing absolutely infuriating. The production costumes and sets are for their time, lavish. It makes an interesting contrast to domingo's version with baltsa - and also dessay's version both in my collection. If you like Offenbach and something easy on the eye and ear - buy it!!
