I bought the Tamiya side cutters as an upgrade to a generic pair of cutters that came in a cheap tool set. I have used them for cutting plastic model parts from the sprue and found them to be a great improvement. The blades are sharp, so they don't tear or flatten plastic, and are also pointed enough to be able gain access small parts. The handles are made from hard plastic but are comfortable. Overall, a very worthwhile upgrade to my modelling tool set.

I must admit, I didn’t research these cutters before I hit the BiN button and it was only on receipt that I realised they were only to be used to cut plastic - I wanted to be able to cut steel pins level with their surrounding area - so no real use for my project. On a positive note, the build quality is superb, nice grips and spring action, they’re great for cutting small parts from their sprues - but that’s all - they’re not even suitable for cutting thin wires. There’s cheaper cutters out there but these should last a lifetime in the right hands.

I replaced my plato side cutters with this, the tamiya side cutter and it’s so much better. It’s soft on hands when using, light and very sharp blades. When i cut the runners of the model kit it’s smooth cause of the shard blades of the cutters. Very useful. I recommend it.

Lightweight, clean action with a clean sharp cut. It would have got 5 stars except the return spring is weak. After a few hours of use, the snips are reluctant to open under spring pressure. Lubrication didn't help so it must be an inferior spring. But these are cheap cutters.
