I thank my parents for having diverse musical tastes, as such I was introduced to Country & Western from an early age, and one of those artists was Tammy Wynette. In Tammy Wynette we had an artists who gave us raw emotion in her songs, moreso when she sang us a sad song. I once heard it said that Tammy wasn't gonna sing anymore sad songs on her marriage George Jones, they cut a number of hit records. However, the tempestuous marriage was to end in divorce that left Tammy much broken, and therein followed the saddest and most memorable songs - truly an artist who suffered for her art. This CD shouldn't be the best of Tammy as some of the classics are missing such Kid's Say The Darndest Things, Woman To Woman, Almost Persuaded amongst others. But what you do get are the memorable greats such as D-I-V-O-R-C-E and Stand By Your Man, and one of my all time favourites Please Come To Boston. Let this be your introduction to one of Country's greatest artist: songs NOT on this CD that I would recommend by Tammy are Walk Through This Word With Me, You And Me, Reach Out Your Hand and Just As Soon As I Get Over Loving You. Tammy Wynette, Queen of Country? I wouldn't like to make that claim against other female recording artists such as Dolly Parton, Crystal Gayle, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Reba McIntrye and Billie Jo Spears, Tammy is more than just Queen she is a Legend of Country.Read full review
This cd is a compilation of all of Tammy's hit singles. Listening to No Charge still brings a tear to my eyes. The relationship songs like 'D.I.V.O.R.C.E' 'Stand by your Man and 'I don't want to play house' show how women feel when their relationships go wrong. T his is a nice nostalgic album.
this is a brilliant record and will give me many hours of listening pleasure. this is one of my favourite country women singers.
