This lens is sharp, fast focusing, light-weight and relatively compact for its zoom range. For the money, you cannot get a better lens. I use it with my Pentax K-1 DSLR, and I do not settle for mediocre photos.

Good lens for the money...Though it is a cheap lens, so don't expect too much. IF you going to take any sort of pictures with this past 100mm you need a tripod, this lens doesnt have any type of image stabilization like many modern lenses have. The focus and zoom rings on the lens I got were not very smooth and I use my stuff mostly for video so that could be a problem, something I'll have to get used to. Took some test pictures. not super sharp zoomed in at 300 but a little less and the image comes out pretty nice. There is definitely chromatic abberation in high contrast areas, but once again this is a cheap lens. My test pictures were also taken on a cloudy day, so I could not set my shutter speed high enough to get very crisp pictures at a large focal length ( i didn't use a tripod) Macro function is pretty nice also. Overall, great for a beginner looking into telephoto or macro photography/video. Perfect for me because I want to spend my money on some quality prime lenses for filming on my 60D.Read full review
This is a full featured lens with Auto Focus. A good value for the cost. It operated flawlessly on my Pentax K-50. On the down side when zooming the lens there was some roughness. That is beginning to smooth out with use.

Having been in the past involved with 35mm film and large format film handheld cameras, it has always been my impression that the major difference for the non-pro or amateur photographer between lenses was the tight transmission qualities (f-stop) and resolution (how pure the lens's are in unit). This lens is to my mind an excellent lower to mid-level lens (fitting on an entry level Pentax as I do not "need" Pro grade) which I can find no fault in resolution throughout the zoom range (again by my standards). As to light transmission, I was able to photograph a live concert with concert lighting (no flash) as a first time out very acceptably with good results (first time out with camera/lens mating). For an old man learning new technology (digital format vs. film formats), I am suitably impressed that this combo is all I need. For reference, I was lead photographer for my college's publications dept. as well as photographed too many weddings (the reason I gave up photography - burn out) and not a novice, just a guy whom technology has outpaced. I will carry this lens mated to my camera and a lens which covers a wide angle to "normal" which should cover any and all needs I anticipate. I am very happy.Read full review

The Tamron LD A17 70-300 mm lens is a great light weight lens for distant pictures where you can not be close to the object you are wanting a picture of. Great for sports, theater, arenas or concerts with awesome detailed imaging. At 12' I can read the head of a dime! This lens I carry with me at all times and I can swap it out in seconds to get pictures when I can not use my regular lens. I bought a used one in mint condition for less then $100.00 saving me hundreds of dollars. I recommend this lens as a must have for every camera.
