Violent, funny, and gripping. An outstanding trilogy kicked off by a great opener. Great characters who blur the lines of good and bad, excellent and darkly amusing dialogue, and action scenes that make you feel like you're there getting stuck in. Abercrombie is the only author I've found whose books I can read several times. Just finished The First Law trilogy in a week as I'm so keen to get to Best Served Cold and Heroes. Lots of backstabbing and twists in a great story set in a well thought out and created world. Light on magic and heavy on war, and consequences of personal agendas. Good characters doing bad things for good reasons.
