Reviews
Rolling Stone - ...This is the most passionate unguarded acting of Eastwood's career..., Variety - ...A handsomely crafted, beautifully acted adult love story....[Streep] has never been so warm, earthy and spontaneous..., USA Today - "...A subliminally emotional triumph of rural photography and production design..." -- 3 1/2 out of 4 stars, Entertainment Weekly - "...Touching in a delicate, almost lyrical way. It's a wonderful surprise -- an honest weeper for adults..." -- Rating: A

Additional Information
Based on Robert James Waller's hugely successful novel, this 1965-set drama chronicles the touching romance between a middle-aged, Italian-American housewife and a photographer from 'National Geographic'. Academy Award nominations: Best Actress--Meryl Streep.
Two souls coming together for 4 days and it changes their lives.
I love this film even though it has me in tears every time. I particularly like the way Meryl Streep narrates in the background through parts of the film.
It's refreshing that the two lead actors are mature rather than two super-fit, super-good looking youngsters that were selected for their looks rather than their acting ability. I would also recommend reading the book if you get the chance.
A film that has stood the test of time ... just watch it, you'll love it.
There are still a few people who love a film on a DVD. This is a film about a love story without any schmaltz and it's also a love letter to rural bygone America. If you've never seen it then remedy the situation as soon as possible.
This is Clint Eastwood at his simmering best. Maybe a bit slushy for some, but I love the film, and Meryl Streep turns in a stunning performance. Clint Eastwood has matured well, and there is no violence in this film. He just makes the part fit him, and does it well.
Fits the subject matter very well. Facts are close to reality.
A First class screenplay well deserved of Oscas all round. An extremley moving story, moving grown men to tears.
For myself, the story was so moving, I was shaking for half an hour afterward.
