This is the seventh book in Simon Scarrow's excellent Roman series. The books are very well written, and by the second I was hooked, and rooting for Macro and Cato, the heroes of the series. This book deals with the centurions mission to Judea, where they are faced with corruption and possible treachery from the local commander, plus open revolt from some of the locals. Simon Scarrow started as a teacher and ran a programme taking students to historic Roman sites around Britain and it is obvious from his writing that Scarrow not only has much knowlege of the Roman Empire, but also a passion for the subject.
Low rating as I havn't read it yet, working through series. If it is as good as those I have read then the rating will be up to 5

I bought this book as my husband was reading the series in chronological order. He informs me that the book is excellent and I can see this from the fact that he cannot put it down! These Simon Scarrow historical novels are, he tells me, just as good as the ones written by Bernard Cornwell, which he recently finished reading. The paperback was in immaculate condition and can be passed safely on to others.
Good easy reading
