What a superb album. In the City was the Jams first album, released in 1977 when Paul was just 19 and Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler were 23. They had been doing all of these songs for a good few years, some of them went right back to their school days (from thier Jamming sessions, which is where the name of the band came from) This album is a must for any Jam fan, its fast, agressive, Punk overtones are what made the band famous. And the bands seconds Album, This is a modern world. Looses that slightly. From the very start with Art School, you'll find yourself jumping around your living room and you wont stop til the album ends. Cannot recomend this album enough. The Jam are fantastic
The Jam's debut long player is one frantic burst of enery from start to finish. Unlike their peers at the time (namely clash, pistols, stranglers etc) the Jam are not afraid to revist the past taking more than just a leaf out of The Who's My Generation era 'book'. However, this is no rehash of 60 mod, it simply takes the concept and brings it to the next level. Don't expect anything like English rose or That's Entertainment, In The City is back to basics british RnB with an injection of punk attitude. A must have album 4.5 out of 5
