AS I HAVEN'T RECIEVED THE FILM AS YET THIS IS WHAT THE FILM IS ALL ABOUT. DESCRIPTION IN RETURN FOR BETRAYING HIS COUNTRY A MAN IS GIVEN A NEW FACE AND IDENTITY. NOW HE IS BACK FROM THE DEAD TO CLAIM THE INSURANCE AS HE NEEDS TO SURVIVE.
Though it isn't exactly critically well appreciated, The Jigsaw Man isn't too bad a film at all. Problems with the budget and shooting the film, along with no cinema release in the UK for it didn't do much for it. In spite of this, it's a minor but entertaining cold war thriller. Michael Caine is excellent as ever in the lead role. The highlight of his performance is his hilarious Russian accent, which is a dead ringer for Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat! Laurence Olivier is also surprisingly good and has a mcuh longer and more active role than you'd expect from this point in his career. There are plot holes, implausibilities and the film is often unintentionally funny, yet all these things add to the charm of the film. As long as you don't set your expectations too high, you can't go wrong. There are also far worse films out there. At budget price, The Jigsaw Man is well worth picking up.Read full review
An old defected British agent (Caine) is transformed by surgery to travel back to England and retrieve a dossier for his Russian masters. Under a new idenitiy, he defects once again - when he reaches the UK. Knowing the content of the dossier, he must play-off the British Secret service against the Russian Intelligence agents who are trying to kill him - as well as another traitor who knows they'll be found out if the dossier is taken by the wrong side. By no means is this the greatest thriller of all time, and on first viewing it will probably confuse you no-end. But after the second or third watching, this is not a bad film. Yes, Caine's Russian accent is a little suspicious at times; the script could've done with a polish and with a cast list which include Laurence Olivier, Michael Caine, Charles Grey and Robert Powell, with direction by Terrence Young, you could forgive yourself if you expected performances that matched with their past endevours. Unfortunately this does't happen. But it's far from being unwatchable. If you don't expect too much, you'll be fine.Read full review
