Comprehensive and brings you up to date
Whatever myths of what Spaniards are like and what Spain is about you have, this will bring you the truth in as compact a way as you can expect. You can also match up what you see and hear in and about Spain with things in the book e.g. Adolfo Suarez was a major politician and streets are named after him as in Benidorm around the Las Rejas golf course. It's written in an accessible style and tries to be (and I think succeeds though I'm less qualified to judge) realistic that is, not painting romantic portraits. Tells you loads of things you didn't know. If you are someone who goes to Spain then lots of things will make more sense to you after reading this book. I got a 2nd-hand copy but for what you get, it's cheap; updated too.
