I must admit I feared the worst when I heard that The Office was to be remade in the US but this is so good, different from the original but just as good. The new episodes, not based on the UK originals are better but even the reproduced episodes are modified to make a smooth transfer to the US workplace. The central characters are excellent, Brent, Gareth and Tim in particular. Series 2 is even better, it will be released soon, buy it!
The world can be split into two groups, those who have seen the office, and those who havent. However it gets tricky when we are introduced to a new series of the office, THE OFFICE, AN AMERICAN WORKPLACE. Is it better than the UK OFFICE, is it worse? Well for those who havent seen the UK OFFICE, then you are in for treat, the US OFFICE will seem BRAND NEW, have AMAZING JOKES and ORIGINAL MATERIAL. For those who have seen the UK OFFICE, the jokes are similar, the material can be repeated, however we have a whole new cast of brilliant and exciting new characters, we may recognise their traits however their skills can translate to a whole new audience. If you have or havent seen the UK OFFICE, dont worry, the OFFICE USA is still brilliant and you will easily forgive the familar set-up when you see how funny it can be re-done.Read full review
I started off not really liking this USA Office and gradually I was charmed by it and now I love it. If you like The Office UK you will like this, give it time but it is great. The Tim/Dawn frisson is perfect, the Gervais character excellent, the Gareth is almost as bad and their are far better opportunities to examine humour in for example racism (if that makes sense) than there are in the UK. You need to clear your mind and watch this as its own show and avoid making comparison and it will quickly shine. There is the same black humour, the same humanity and the same futility that the UK Office had, just in a US way. In many respects the fact that most US comedy is so middle class (Seinfeld, Friends, Will and Grace, Frasier) makes this quite different. If you are worried about it being a diluted UK Office think again, this is a great adaptation/franchise and stands up on its own 2 feet.Read full review
