A lengthy tome but an engaging tale of church/cathedral building with the politics of the day at the forefront of all developments. The intricate stories of the characters involved is engaging, horrifying and astonishing in equal measures. Certainly a reminder of how far society has progressed in terms of more comfortable living but perhaps the politics behind major events isn't always much different. I have fewer than 200 pages left to read but still wouldn't want to call the final outcome! I have been thoroughly engrossed in this read.
