This is an extremely funny story. One of the most humourist books I have read. Tom Sharpe has excelled himself with this story, I would recommend it to anyone with a great sense of humour and a Tom Sharpe fan.

Tom Sharpe wrote The Throwback way before the acronym LOL was being used, but that is exactly what this writing will have you do, the dry humour runs through this book like sand through an hour glass; the characters are creative caricatures that colour the pages with their ineptitude, and lack of finesse, with a hefty dose of bigotry and sexism thrown in. Despite their many failings you can’t help me get on side with Lockhart as he overcomes his own fears and personal conflicts as he battles for the truth; even if he does go about things in an extraordinarily unconventional way. This book is not for the faint hearted or easily offended-the explicit language and sexual references throughout are not painted with a light stroke, but that is exactly what makes this book near on impossible to put down.Read full review
Although the book was first published years ago, it is as refreshingly non-PC and relevant as ever. Its dark satire will upset and shock the modern generation who are conditioned to be offended by anything. Many people who read and enjoyed the book will pretend to be horrified whilst secretly mourning the loss of free speach which would prevent its like being published today.
