Being only 17 I wasn't alive during The Who's greatest times, which also included the amazing Keith Moon on drums, however I decided that I wanted to see what The Who are like in modern times without the full list of band members. This concert was recorded in November 2000, with John "Thunder Fingers" Entwistle was still alive. They sounded just as loud and alive as in many live recordings I viewed on "The Kids Are Alright" movie. It was pretty amazing to see them performing with other new and old artists aswell such as Bryan Adams, Noel Gallagher, Eddie Vedder and Pall Weller. These performances are fantastic, but although I am an Oasis fan, I do feel Noel Gallagher's guitar solo in "Won't Get Fooled Again" was just a little less than good. The picture quality though RGB scart like any recently filmed footage dumped onto DVD is fantastic and I could not see any mosaicing in dark sequences (that said, I only viewed it on a 24" TV.) Sound quality is also very, very good too. There is the welcome addition of a DTS soundtrack which many home cinema fans such as myself will be happy to hear. Through my modest setup of Eltax bookshelf speakers all around and a Sony STR-DB780 QS reciever connected upto a Panasonic dvd player via coaxial digital interconnect and Van Damme speaker cables, I was able to hear even the "swooping" where Roger was doing his best with the microphone, making it hurtle across the drum kit and monitor speakers. Aside from this, considering this is a two dvd set (one for the feature and one for extras), the extras really are poor. At first I was excited at the prospect of seeing the back stage and rehearsal footage for each guest artist, but each clip is only around one minute long. It isn't even enough to get the taste buds going. Overall, the main reason any The Who fan will want to buy this dvd for is to watch one of the greatest bands in the world perform, and for that alone this DVD is a thoroughly amazing watch and is difficult to stay seated when you have the volume high! A must buy for any Who fan.Read full review
