This film from Larry Clark depicts the true story surrounding the murder of Florida teen Bobby Kent by seven of of his peers in 1993. As the story unfolds, Bobby is portrayed as a sadistic, conceited and manipulative bully who's even nastier to his closest friends. Tired of his behaviour which escalated into Bobby raping one of the seven friends, Marty (Brad Renfro) and his girlfriend Lisa (Rachel Miner) conspire to, and brutually murder Bobby (Nick Stahl) and dump his corpse in a swamp with the help of the other friends and a so-called "hitman". After Bobby's killing, it becomes clear to the other teens the magnitude of what they've done and it's not long before the law catches up with them due to their own carelessness. Given that Clark's first film "Kids" was controversial for its realistic portrayal of teens in modern America, this film is equally unflinching. All the teens have sex, take alot of drugs, smoke, swear constantly and it's all explicitly shown here. The murder itself is equally graphic, and made more disturbing in knowing that this is a true story. Given the graphic nature of this film, it may not be for all tastes; however it's an excellent retelling of a very sad true story. Highly recommended.Read full review
It is one of those films one hears about which maks you think " I should watch that some-day" and you should. It is a well put together film about the way things are thees days and in particular - teanagers. It is baised on a true story and tho a little slow from time to time it is worth keeping with it to the end. For those interested in such things, there is plenty of teenage nudity and sex and of corse, vileance.
Grim, ugly, shocking teen drama inspired by a true story. A sadistic youth who victimised his best pals is eventually murdered by them - and good riddance. But the killers are so drug-muddled and stupid that they are soon caught. The whole film is sickening and depressing.
fantastic modern very true to life film. very hard hitting...disturbing in places.Be warned before you buy,it does feature an unpleasant rape scene. A case of the bully gets what he deserves! Buy it if you can..highly recommended.
Its a good film, it reflects the society that many teenage american citizens live in. Gives an example of what these teenagers get exposed to. Sex Drugs and Violence.
