This arrived well packed and the box was still wrapped in cellophane. However on 1st use all was not well it couldn't find any Sattelites. I had to send it off for repair at a cost of £100 approx including Postage. Also everytime I connect to the Computer it says it is up to date however in practice it isn't as up-to-date as my old GO-910. It is very difficult to find how to update it and I still haven't managed to do it. It seems that although both 'my Tom Tom' and 'Tom Tom Home' are not set up to update this particular Model. Tom Tom's Customer Service are very difficult to contact and I haven't yet managed to do so. Would I reccommend it... Absolutely not.
it does what i need it for

This is the third TomTom I have owned, I also have a Snooper S2000. All of the previous Sat-navs I have bought come with a protective bag or case to carry them around in, not this one. It's a £20 extra. In common with the new 1000 Series car sat-navs the 7100 uses a database of the mileages between all points on the map. The mileage along each segment of the route between the two points are not now calculated by the TomTom. This results in greatly reduced calculation times for route planning. Because of the new higher definition capacitive touch screen, you now have to use your finger to navigate the menus. I used to use the tip of a retracted biro, to keep the screen clean, but this no longer works. TomTom have removed, what I believe to be, the single most useful feature for multi-drop deliveries. The ability to enter an itinerary for the day's deliveries. Depending on who you listen to, this feature will reappear in a future software release (in the second quarter of 2011). The only current work around is to use the Travel Via facility, but this only allows one extra point on the route. A snag with this facility is that unless you drive right past your waypoint, it wont accept that you have in fact done your delivery and want to move on. It will redirect you back to the waypoint seemingly forever. You will then have to clear your current route and enter a new route for your second destination. The Snooper units have an over-ride to delete the next interim point, which gets round this problem nicely. The madness doesn't stop there. Even when the sat nav says you have reached your final destination, you still have to use the "Clear Route" button before you can enter a new route to your next delivery. Arghhh!!! A further issue with navigation is that the "Navigate to" function is locked out whilst you have a route planned. This means that for example, if you want to check for a POI (like a truck stop or motorway service area) on your current route, you can't. This used to be an excellent way of checking to see if you would make it to a certain Motorway Service Area for a break before your hours were up, or checking to see if there was a key fuels or other refuelling point on your route (shown by a green arrow), or near your route (shown by an orange arrow). All gone now you can't do this. Post Code entry is now a bit of a chore. Unlike previous units where you have a complete keyboard to tap on, you now need to change from the Letter entry keys to the Number entry keys and then back to Letter entry keys to enter a single Post Code. As with previous TomToms you can update it by attaching it to your PC, via the provided USB cable. Unfortunately, because the USB cable now plugs into the cradle, and not the unit, you have to take the unit AND the cradle to the PC, or the PC to the TomTom. You can, of-course, buy an additional cable to connect directly between the TomTom and your PC. It's a £12.95 extra Currently the following facilities are not available on this or the 1000 series car units. 3rd Party Points of Interest Map Share Software Backup and Restore Also missing is any form of compass display. On previous units you could have either a compass rose in the display area and/or a one or two letter compass direction indication in the status bar. Although the combined 12v power lead and RDS-TMC aerial has the same mini USB plug as the one for TomTom One and XL models, it is not compatible with this unit. For Sale one TomTom.Read full review
I bought the tom tom pro7100 to replace older satnav, and I am very impressed with the item.not once has this satnav tried to take me through areas not suited to my vehicle.
