Tony Banks is a founder member of Rock Supergroup Genesis. His solo career todate encompasses 7 album releases, but has never achieved the scale of success that other members of the band have. Soundtracks is the fourth release from Tony and contains some very interesting and highly polished tracks. Recorded for inclusion in two films, this album was never really going to be a big hit. Colaberations with Fish, Toyah and Jim Diamond manage to lift this album from the mediocre. Interspersed are some very delicate almost classical keyboard instrumentals. The music contained within this album has familiar overtones with music later written for inclusion within the Invisible Touch Genesis album. Tony deserves more success as a solo artist than he gets. If you like the keyboard stuff played by genesis then you will love this. If you hate Genesis then you will hate this.Read full review
This album consists of the Genesis keyboard players, contributions, to two film soundtracks, Lorca and the Outlaws, and Quicksilver. Some of the instrumental work hasn't dated well, as neither, Im sure have the movies, being very much, products of the Eighties. Banks at least has overcome the vocal issues of his previous album, by employing guest vocalists. Some of the most distinctive singers of the decade, including Toyah, Fish, and Jim Diamond, contribute to this album and help root the feel, well and truly in the Eighties. For fans only
Lion of Symmetry is the best song Tony Banks has ever written. The rest is a wonderful soundscape of eclectic music.
