In my opinion this outing is not as good as Amicus' usual offering. Do not expect the same standard as "The House That Dripped Blood", "Asylum", "Dr Terror's Vault of Horror", "Tales From the Crypt", or "From Beyond the Grave" etc. The individual stories in this anthology are reasonable enough, the worst being the third story (which is quite bad), but it is the linking story that is particularly bad. The problem is that Amicus didn't seem to realise. In other productions of theirs the linking story has been very good, in others not so good, and they kept it a bit briefer. The linking story in this one is not very good, but they have too much of it. I found the film quite slow to start. In summary I would not reccommend this to someone that wants a taste of Amicus, or indeed 60s/70s horror, if you want that get "The House that Dripped Blood", it is superior in every sense. This is a curiosity for completists. Hope this is of some help.Read full review
Torture garden was made in 1967 and it was the second anthology film from Amicus productions. Starring are Burgess Meredith,Jack Palance and Peter Cushing. The outlining story is set around a fairground and takes place in a side show hosted by the menacing Dr Diablo-played by Burgess Meredith. All four tales are diverse and there is plenty on offer here in this film to please most horror buff's. I whole heartedly recommend this gem!
