UNKNOWN 2011 **** Jaume Collet-Serra . This is a very engaging thriller set in Berlin. Very classy production with impressive special effects that must have absorbed a high budget, which makes one wonder how a virtually unknown Catalan director got the job. A clever (if slightly contrived) plot where a married couple arrive in Berlin for a biotechnology summit. Based on a French novel it is highly topical, peppered with illegal immigrants, terrorist threats , Arabic princes. Immediately we are plunged into the action when Dr Martin Harris’s (Liam Neeson) briefcase gets left at the airport. Hearrives to the hotel, drops off his wife discovers the missing brief case and gets a taxi back to the airport to find it. On the way is involved in a spectacular RTA and is in a coma for 4 days. When he awakes and tries to return to his life his identity, his life and his wife have all been taken over by an imposter. He has little money, no passport , no support in a strange city and doesn’t speak German. He eventually collapses and returns to the hospital. But then an attempt is made on his life and two hospital technicians are killed so he knows there is a conspiracy. He enlists and an old Stasi agent and a Bosnian illegal immigrant (female). His boss/ old friend arrives from the States. and then the truth is revealed. His life is actually a fiction. He is a secret agent and is at the conference to bump off a scientist who has developed a strain of grain that can prosper almost anywhere, thus making cheap food worldwide. So Neeson had been a commissioned mercenary to bump him off. But his amnesia screwed the plan up therefore he had to be replaced and thus, because of the ripples he has been creating, has to be illuminated. Needless to say he comes over to the side of the good (not sure I was convinced by this ) and all’s well with the world. Highly entertaining. Not sure if Neeson wasn’t a bit too old for the part though. But that’s following an old Hollywood tradition isn’t it?Read full review
Solid action thriller with a decent storyline that is never boring. Neeson is on top form again, he is excellent in the lead role and is ably supported by a fine cast. The fight/action sequences are very well crafted and edited. Let us be clear, this is not quite in the same league as `Taken`, (what action film is?), but it is a top quality watch. Recommended.
I think that Liam Neeson is one of the best actors of our time and this is one of his best films. It is intriguing from start to finish and will make you want to see it from start to finish. It is well written, well acted and an absolute must for Liam Neeson fans! Enjoy!

Liam Neeson is very good in this type of drama. Well constructed plot. Extreme in parts but it is entertaining as are his films Taken 1 and 2 and Non-stop and not full of expletives. Worth watching more than once.
