Dorothy Dunnett is regarded as one of the best writers of historical novels. These are not your basic bodice-rippers, but carefully crafted, thoughtful, engaging and captivating works which draw you into the world of Nicholas de Fleury, known variously as Nicco', Claes and a burden of nicknames, not all of them kind or flattering. If you want to enter the world of Europe and the Eastern kingdoms during the late 1400's, meet historic and fictional characters seamlessly meshed, you will never do better than Dunnett's work. The Unicorn Hunt sweeps you along from Scotland through the Tyrolean Alps to wash up on the shores of the island of the goddess Venus and then dragged back to conflict in Venice. Along the way, you meet unforgettable characters, old friends and new interlopers who will bring life to a vivid and vital world of sex, intrigue, politics and perhaps a bit of murder along the way. The fifth book in the House of Niccolo series, you will have already been captured by the story, and if not, you will be. Read them all, every one's a glorious adventure.Read full review
This is number five in a series of novels. They are quite addictive but take a while to get into as there is a huge cast of characters. The book arrived on time it was more well used than I expected but still readable.
