This is the second Velvet Underground studio album. For me its a classic but perhaps not for the faint hearted. The tracks range from the screeching viola and distorted guitars on "I heard her call my name" (my favourite) to the conversational lyrics on "The Gift" with its twist at the end. White Light/White Heat is a more typical rock song, was covered by Bowie among others, and remains in Lou Reed's set to the present day. Sister Ray at over 16 minutes was perhaps the fore-runner of the concept album and in inimitable Reed style lets you peek into a world that in part would be graphically illustrated in "Trainspotting". Much has been written about the influence of the velvets on punk and metal. I just like them and wish i had seen them when it was happening - this is a glimpse.Read full review
Wow. This album is DIRTY! This is very different from the Velvet Underground & Nico (the one with a banana on the front). It is dark. If your expecting it to cheer up it doesn't. I had only heard the Velvet Underground & Nico before buying this and was initially dissapointed.... BUT this album has really grown on me. Give it more than one listen. I regard it to be as good if not better than the Velvet Underground & Nico. I recommend this album to anyone who bought Velvet Underground & Nico and want to hear what else this amazing band can do.
All good
