Great history of the Spencer family

I bought this book as I am interested in British history related to the British monarchy. Few families in British history has consistantly been so intertwined with the Royal Family. This book by Charles Spencer is a very personal but detached account of the history of his family. It is well written, the sequence of events are well documented. His closest connection with the Royal Family through his sister, the late Diana, Princess of Wales and as uncle of the heir to the British throne has been maintained in good perspective and all stages of the family history have been well described. This book is superior to other books I have read on this subject and highly recommended.
Charles Spencer is one of a few authors who can present historical facts in an interesting and understandable form. He certainly brings alive the personalities of his ancestors plus how and why the family survived turbulent times. This is a warts and all story exposing the foibles of some and the duplicity of others. There are more heroes than villains but none are boring. I would urge you to read this book and others he has written.
