I had bought a Denon RCD-M38 CD Receiver which I matched with a pair of Wharfedale shelf-top speakers. I was very pleased with the resulting sound but, after a while, began to realise that there was a slight limiting to the bass reproduction. Hard to describe, but I like both classical and jazz music and felt that cellos lacked some of the excitement of the lower notes in classical pieces and ditto the double-bass in jazz. So I bought the Wharfedale Diamond 9 subwoofer. Fortunately the Denon has a dedicated output for subwoofers so it was easy to install. I am delighted with the result and the Denon/Wharfedale/Wharfedale produces very enjoyable music at a reasonable price. My only complaint with the Diamond 9 is that the on/off switch and the on/off indicator light are located low down at the back of the cabinet, this is rather inconvenient.Read full review
For a "budget" bookshelf speaker these are very impressive. Quite sensitive at low volume settings so clarity is excellent with remarkable bass response even at higher volumes.

Wharfedale have always been good speakers, but these Diamond 9 are really the business. Crisp, clear sound, and a very good range. Also, they are a very handy size, - small but perfectly formed.

I completely disagree with What hifi's and the rest of the worlds opinion on these. The mid range is muffled. This isn't the first pair of these i've picked up along the way and they've all had the same issue. Stand them next to a pair of Dali Zensor 1's, Q Acoustic 2020i's or even a pair Denon SC-M73's and you'll hear it for yourself. They're all crystal compared to the 9.1's. The 10.1's have a little of the same issue which isn't present in the 10.2's which is probably why they made the last mentioned. Oh yeah the SC-M73's are a star. Livelier than most mentioned above. It's close between them and the Dali's with the Dali's shading it.They're quite a full on in your face speaker. Marks knocked off for brashness though. There' was 5 of us comparing this lot by the way. It's not just my old ears opinion!Read full review
