A readable, compelling book, funny in parts. His memoirs-style have changed over the 5 books from a slapstick, to a diary format to a format based more on places and latterly on Spike as an entertainer and his love affair. Enjoyable

Having read spikes previous books about his life prior to WWII, his preparation for his position in the Gunnery and subsequent action in North Africa and Italy this book talks about his time recuperating in Italy and ends with him finding a place in the combined services entertainment troop. Spike seems to have found his calling. It is interesting to see this side of Spike, but as a read I found myself drifting, the book lacking the drive of the previous volumes.

It's Spike Milligan, it's good by definition.

Having read the previous volumes Adolf Hitler-my part in his downfall, Rommel- Gunner Who ?, Montgomerey- my part in his victory, Mussolini my part in his downfall, it was time to get a copy of the next installment, In this volume the lunacy continues, more mayhem with the British Army (and according to Spike ) the `bloody idiots in charge of it ! As with the previous volumes Spike gives a laymans view of life in the army, he tells it `as it is`, not glossed over like some other books. All the books are highly recommended. Side splitting humor- whilst telling the truth !!
