We have sold 1000s of these excellent chucks.
I have used one of these chucks myself for many years on both my Harrison and Axminster lathes and found them to be well made, solid and reliable.
I have written below some information on chucks and Morse tapers that may be of interest. One of the things that confuse many people is the Morse taper, how it works or simply what size Morse taper they need for their own lathe. I have written below a few brief notes to try and help, but If have any questions then please ask.
What is a Morse taper? The Morse Taper is the " hollow tapered hole" found in the centre of the Headstock and in the Tailstock of Lathes (as well as some Pillar drills and Milling machines) made to common diameter sizes with a universally recognised tapered profile. Morse Tapers come in eight sizes. The taper size is normally identified by a single digit ranging from 0 to 7 (0 being the smallest) which is normally just abbreviated to the letters "MT", so a MT2 is a Morse Taper Number 2. It is fairly easy to identify which MT you need by simply measuring the hole diameter in your tail stock. The approx Morse Taper hole sizes are listed below.
MT1 = 12mmMT2 = 18mmMT3 = 24mm(MT1 & MT2 being the most popular).
Whilst there are other tapers, these are very rarely found on lathes. Of these "other tapers" the most common is a Jacobs taper which is normally only found on Pillar drills. The fitting (the hole) in the back of the chuck is called the "short taper" and these vary enormously. O
ur chucks have the common (and most popular) fitting called B16. The B16 is the Metric DIN taper number. The dimensions of the B16 "short taper" are 15.73mm taper to 14.50mm with a taper length of 24mm.
How does a Morse Taper work? Lathes, by their nature, operate in a rotary manner and normally a rotating workpiece comes into contact with a fixed tool, i.e. a drill bit held in a drill chuck held in the tailstock. The chuck must be held firmly in place, properly centred in line with the axis of rotation, but also able to be quickly and simply removed. The best way of achieving this was found to be using a tapered metal bar (similar to a ice cream cone with the top cut off) fitted into a hollowed tapered hole (or sleeve) in the head or tail stock. The large tapered surface area of the cone holds the shaft very securely in place through friction; hence the invention of the Morse Taper was born (invented 1864 by A. Morse). The Morse Taper is now universally accepted as the standard Machine Taper used throughout the world.

A Speed Clamp suitable for one handed operation and is ideal for clamping workpieces in the home, workshop or in industry. This clamp operates in the same way as a mastic gun by using the lever and has an instant single handed release. Comes with plastic pad for protecting the workpiece being clamped.
A low cost, very handy device for any Woodworker when sawing, planning, drilling, pyrography, carving and general bench woodworking
A Planet Bench Stop is a clever and practical, yet simple device that acts as a Bench stop on the workbench, the clever part is that it fits flush on the work bench out of the way when not in use.
The bench stop is mounted in the Bench surface, secured by two screws hidden under the jaw (screws not included). When the stop is needed simply turn the screw by hand anticlockwise and the stop raises proud of the surface, then when its not needed, just turn the screw clockwise and the stop folds back flush on the bench. The serrated jaw can also be used to hold thin ply firmly, which makes these very popular with model makers and also for pyrography work. The bench stop is made from non rusting, cast alloy and measures (approx) 1.1/2" wide x 2.7/16" long. The Bench stop can be fitted into any wooden bench that is thicker than 7/8" (22mm).
