The initial thought was that this would be a poorly written hagiography but the author (David Beaty's wife) is an accomplished author in her own right. Thus it is a well written autobiography of a very interesting man. I read the book as I was intrigued about David Beaty's experiences as a pilot and he was clearly a far thinking man. Worth reading are his novels "The Cone of Silence" (which,to all intents and purposes, is about the fate that befell the Comet airplane and the effect on the British aircraft industry. Another very good read is "The Wind off the Sea" which looks at the psychological aspects of being a pilot.
