Well all I can really say is that this is about 2 years older than my Yamaha 5.1 that croaked on me a few weeks ago. I saw this one in mint condition and I was able to pick it up for $150 which is about 50 Percent less than a new receiver. Works like new and looks like new. Worth every penny and the seller packaged it very well and it arrived in like new condition. This also has a upgrade path to 7.1 surround sound system. You add a extra amp to power the rear surround speakers and you good to go. I bought a Audio Source AMP100 that puts out 50 watts into a 8 Ohm load and has a volume control on the front. I plugged this amp into my Yamaha and it powers that used Definitive BP-X1s I bought for my rear speakers. So for $150 I got the like new receiver, then $60 for the Audio Source amp that will also switch itself off, and $60 for the rear Definitive BI-Poles that are mind blowing. Add the other 4 Definitive Studio Monitor 450 for both front and side output and a 2002 Definitive Center and I have a all Definitive speaker system except for the Dayton Audio 12" powered sub and a Polk 10" powered sub, that give me the ultra low bass and I'm one happy camper after dealing with a Yamaha receiver blow out these purchases were a welcome relief " :) This is a excellent receiver with many extra features that was almost identical to the receiver that died on me for 50 Percent the cost! This has everything you would need in a medium priced surround sound audio video receiver. The price is right and the quality of Yamaha has been proven over the years as a quality line of products. I used this as my living room theater setup, and it would blow you out of the room. I read many reviews on line and everyone seemed to like this receiver.
Recently bought this Receiver and have connected several components: 46" Sony LCD TV, Toshiba HD DVD, Yamaha CD player, Yamaha Stereo Cassette player and Play Station3 with Bose Accostimass speakers. Amazed as to how well everything responds and works. Great features for the price. The HDMI connections are a blessing.
