I bought this radio to keep in contact with my fellow bikers while we are out riding. It is a reasonably compact unit & Midland radios have a good reputation amongst bikers. It provides clear speech through my helmet speakers over a distance up to a mile so far, well within its quoted range. The downside is there is no battery gauge only a tiny indicator in the top left hand corner of the small screen which apparently only comes on when the battery is almost completely discharged. The battery when fully chargerd is good for communication over two days which is pretty good. For use on longer tours I will need a spare battery. When charging the battery the instruction leaflet says charge for 12 hours by which time the unit is quite hot. My unit has a charger lead which plugs into the side of the unit which is different from the pictures which show the charger as a base unit which the radio sits in. Maybe there are two different models of the same unit. I have to clip the radio to my jacket at the moment because the autocom lead is too short to allow me to fit the radio in a tank bag or onto a handlebar mount & so I cant see the display whilst riding & so I can't tell when the battery is about to run out. An autocom extension lead should overcome this problem. It is quite sturdy too, I have dropped it a couple of times already without damage. All in all it does what it is supposed to do. I am pleased with the radio & would recommend this product to anyone thinking of buying one. I only paid £35 for a brand new unit so I consider it a bargain.Read full review
Used the PRG-15 software to customise the radio with all 16 PMR channels, including the 8 new ones. Worked a treat. Nice little radio

I use this kind of radios in my off-road activities. I like the range and quality of the sound. It's also a very robust radio.
We have several different manufacturers radios on our small farm shoot. The G7's were supposed to be an upgrade, but have proved to be unreliable and not on par with ANY of the cheaper brands. One G7 radio was sent back under warrenty as it could receive but not trasmit. This radio was exchanged I believe. 2 Years on and the same fault has occurred in this radio also. It was sent back to Midland who returned it with a note saying, OUT OF WARRENTY, NOT WORTH ECONOMICAL REPAIR. This is certainly not a quality product, nor quality service. I expect much more from a manufacturer of Alans status.
Good solid radio. Can be xpanded and also the power increased to 2.5 watts which Is very easy to do. The expansion puts the lpd channels on. A great radio good range about two miles in the town which is good compared to some 200 yards jobs you find on here. battery pack can be replaced with aa batteries. The case is quite strong
