One started to emit smoke and was replaced FOC, mind you, I bought it many years ago. Another one was nuked by my 3 year old Beauceron (French Shepherd) So I use two on a daily basis and this particular one (with remote control) was going for a very good price, my others have been manual control. I reckon these heaters are the best of their type available today.

I had to return my first unit as one panel wouldn't heat up properly when on full power, the LCD screen had a blob on it and the thermostat was 2C inaccurate (I tested it). The replacement unit provides the more even three sided (left, right and top) output promised when on full power, LCD screen is fine and the thermostat bang on. So now that I have a fully functioning unit the good stuff: The unit pumps out a fair amount of heat, and warms up a medium sized room from 16.5c to 21c in around 45 minutes. It then maintains the heat by switching itself off and on without your knowledge (bar an innocuous click). It's generally silent. The casing is metal and has a reasonably premium feel. It's portable - I'm a 61kg male and I find it light to move around. All good. Already I'm using it every day, as a supplement or alternative to central heating. The not so good stuff: - As I said my first unit didn't work properly and Dimplex may have some wider quality control issues. The second unit works but the panel with the controls on it isn't evenly fixed to the rest of the panel - there's a slight gap on the right hand side (see picture). With both units when I shone a light inside I could see screws protruding without nuts attached - not good in my opinion, even if they are meant to be out of sight. The remote seems to do little more than alter the temperature which makes it pretty redundant if like me you just set 21C and leave it at that. I haven't found programming the unit to switch itself on and off as straight forward as it should be which means that for now I'm ignoring that function and just using it manually. I may try again later. So in conclusion the device is good at the basic function of heating up a room and it is effortless and silent, but watch out of quality control issues, and unless you really like to vary the temperature throughout the evening don't bother with the remote control version - it's redundant as the thermostat does a perfectly decent job of maintaining a fixed temperature by itself. If like me you've previously been using a noisy fan assisted heater which alternately roasts and then chills you you'll be very pleased with the steady heat produced by the Dimplex, and by its silence.Read full review

Lovely and light, no smell as water filled. Very nice to have a handset to alter the temperature or mode (choose which side to have on or both). Only thing I didn’t realize is that after a brief power cut it doesn’t seem to come back on automatically & has to be re set.

I have limited heating options with no town gas. This heater will warm an average size room in a short time. (5 mins?). It offers a lot of settings and has a remote control. You can set it to heat from the left of right side or both sides if it is really cold. The programmable timer makes if economic and it is light enough to wheel around the house also making it economic as you only heat the room you are using at the time.

PROS 1) It is a really good heater and good value. 2) heats the room well and fairly quickly: I use it for my large studio flat and I would say it heats most of the space in about half an hour. Mine is a large space so i think i would need to move it around to heat the whole space - but it works just fine for me! 3) silent to use, makes no noise 4) good display; easy to use 5) I think it's quite cheap to use and doesn't use too much energy unlike other portable heaters CONS 1) One of the reasons I bought this was because of the timer; so it would automatically turn on in the morning and heat the room before I get up. However, the timer only works if the heater is switched on. I.e. plugged in, and press the on button. When it is 'on' not only does this seem a waste of energy but the display is VERY bright blue when all the bedroom lights are switched off. It seems silly that the timer doesn't work unless it is all already on.. so that was annoying!Read full review
