I am by no means an accomplished sewer and I bought this book more in fear than hope that I would be able to apply some of the principles to making and adapting patterns to my size and shape (short and fat!) Having read through the book reasonably carefully, I am now more hopeful that the next time I buy a paper pattern to make a garment, I will be able to alter it to accommodate my less than perfect figure. I haven't seen any other books specifically on this subject so have nothing to compare it with, but the layout is clear and the notes and text helpful. My only comment would be that as a paperback, it doesn't stay open at the page you are on unless you are prepared to break the spine, which I'm not. A better binding method would be a spiral binder.
