When I bought this item I already owned the original Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty on PS2. Having completed it, the only replay value it had was going around trying collect the dog-tags to unlock the extra items in the game. Don't get me wrong, the storyline is captivating everytime you run through the game. The only thing is unless you increase the difficulty, after two or three times of completing it, the parts of the story that require a bit of thought can be done very quickly. With the release of Substance, the extra modes that are added make the game come to life again. The VR missions are similar to the ones from Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions. The good thing with the VR Missions is that when you've done them once the next challenge is to do them again but in a quicker time. This adds a lot more playability to the game. Also the VR Missions can be played as Snake or Raiden. The game also has some unlockable characters, although I don't know much about these as I haven't got far enough to unlock any. One mode that caught my eye was the 'Snake Tales', which gives the player control of Solid Snake for 5 new mini missions. This mode would make Solid Snake fans happy, as the playable part of the story with Snake was relatively short. All in all, this game is worth purchasing if you are a big fan of Metal Gear Solid!Read full review
