It is said that this is one of the sharpest lenses Nikon has ever made. I don't know if this is true because I haven't tried them all (though I do have about 14). Anyway, I wasn't disappointed. For a portrait lens it doesn't get much better than this. f2.0 is maybe not one of the 'fastest' lenses, but to be honest, any wider than that and the depth of field is so shallow it is hardly useable. The best thing about this lens though is the variable Bokeh (background blur). Again, it doesn't get much better than this. The term 'creamy' Bokeh is very apt here. Loved it! I have attached a snap of our dog out in the snow. This was shot at f3.2 and event then, the depth of field is really shallow; I think his nose was the sharpest part of the image, even though I wanted his eyes to be (they don't stay still for long, much like kids)Read full review

As a dedicated portrait lens-this is about as good as it gets Some may prefer the longer reach 135mm The optics are near perfect, it is a substantial piece of kit which will hold it's value if treated with the respect the price tag demands The defocus needs a bit of experimentation to master-some people don't ever bother to use that aspect The finish is rugged and robust, easy to use and grip even in cold weather Auto focus is excellent If you want one-get one you won't be disappointed
Top quality optics; excellent build quality; unique featue (bokeh control) (shared with its sister 135mm f2)

This is quite simply the most impressive lens I own. Limited use, of course, but when used never less than amazing.
