It's a funny focal length on an M43 camera but I used to have a 55mm on a 35mm camera and it's not too different. Being a bit long and having a very high level of sharpness with some ability to separate foreground from background makes it ideal for portraits of 2 or more people, or longer length shots, but also it works well in landscapes where the shortish focal length is often as wide as you really need to go and the perspective is not distorted. I like it very much.

There is not a lot of lens choice for micro 4/3rds cameras. This is a good focal length for general photography and at f2.8 it is faster than the kit zoom lens. The lens feels a little loose inside due I have read to the particular design of the image stabilisation deployed. Better in quality than the old Sigma zoom I have. This lens also makes much better images being on par with main manufacturers budget lenses. I have seen some complaints on the web suggesting that Sigma lenses fail quickly. All I can say to this is that my old Sigma zoom, was purchased second hand more than 8 years ago and still works like when I bought it.

In addition to the Olympus Pro Lenses that I use on my Olympus OM D E M1 MKII, I decided to purchase one of these Little.. Sigma 30mm f2. 8 art lenses. It's been used on the OM-D-E-M1 MKII and a little Olympus Pen E pl3. OK.. Its not got weather sealing, but it definitely offers superb fast focusing, and very sharp images, and copes with flare very well. I'm impressed with it, I've ordered both the 19mm & 60mm. Great lens, quality build, cheap, and very good images from Sigma.
