Bought as a present for my mother but started reading it myself - ended up reading the whole book in a week-end as it is a great book detailing the life of William Marshal, a knight to the Plantagenet kings Henry, Richard and John.Much of the story is interwoven with the treachury and intrigue of court life. It is written in such a way that you feel involved with his everyday life. There are further books continuing his life story with his marriage and continuing loyalty to the royals. As it is based on a true story it makes the book more meaningful - his stone effigy, and those of his sons, is found in the Temple Church London.A highly recommended read and I shall be purchasing the next books to continue the story.
Fantastic fictional work of a real historical event. The research and detailed explanation of characters, enviromental, life and colours of the time of the events are brilliant. The research involved in the telling of this story is incredible. Anyone with a vivid imagination will love this story. It certainly did not take me long to read it, i couldn't put the book down. I'm on the second read.
