The DVD was very competetively priced and arrived quickly. The film delves into Queen Victoria's life as a young woman in some detail, not least in the political machinations surrounding the monarchy in the 1830's-40's. From everything i have gleaned from other sources, the portrayal of her character is pretty accurate!

Although a few years since it was made... it was good to see these young actors portray Victoria and Albert so well. As a fan of Homeland, I was keen to see Rupert Friemd in other roles.

An excellent period production covering the period of her life from childhood into womanhood and her transition from powerlessness to that of supreme power for the period. Most readers of history are aware of her deep and lasting love for Albert that in the end she observed until her death but this film reveals a marriage based on love in the traditional sense rather than an arranged marriage which was common for the period amongst European nobility. As in so many period pieces it it the attention to minor detail which leads to its success. Highly recommended.
The film starts with Princess Victoria under a domineeering control of her mother and the Duchess's Controller. Yet she is determined not to agree to what they are seeking. Prince Albert appears on the scene, and at first is her distant guide, but becomes closer and closer and the film develops into the well known love story that we know of the Prince Consort and Queen Victoria. ALTHOUGH historically inaccurate in parts (her first prime minster seems to be making a play at her!) - it is nevertheless a very engaging film, I thoroughly recommend it!
