A Wood of One's Own by Ruth Pavey (Hardback, 2017)

A woodland sanctuary
A wonderful account of the author's experience learning how to create a woodland garden from a wild tangle of a neglected orchard and scrub. Written with great humour and a good eye for the personalities of all the local people who advised and helped her. It is a place near to me in Somerset so has much local appeal. Highly recommended.

The Crow Road
This DVD of " The Crow Road " is totally compulsive viewing. Its a clever murder mystery which relies on intuition and imagination to solve the puzzle and we are drawn into the plot step by step. All the actors are on top form and the script is brilliant in its laconic humour, its brooding philosophy, and its tortured family relationships. The flashback sequences merge seamlessly into the story and the whole thing is an expert demonstration and commentary on the art of storytelling. To be watched again and again until its time for you too, to follow the Crow Road......

Six Facets Of Light, 9781910702321, Wroe, Ann

A quality piece of writing.
An admirable book, written to celebrate the quality of light on the south downs and the attempts of several artists to capture its elusive charm. The work of Ravilious features strongly, this being my main reason for buying the book, but others like Palmer, and Turner are considered too. Ann Wroe weaves together quotes from a multitude of sources to illustrate her theme and introduces her own experiences of this special place. A wonderful piece of scholarship and erudition.
