I Found You, Jewell, Lisa, 9781780893617

Thoroughly good read
really enjoyed I Found You – it is nice and easy to read, flowing well with a good dollop of suspense in the storyline. What happens when single mum Alice meets “Frank” on the beach near her Yorkshire home. “Frank” is a man in crisis, he has lost his memory and doesn’t even know his own name. Is it wise for Alice to take him under her wing? After all, he could be anyone and she could be putting her children in danger. The story is told from several viewpoints, firstly those of Alice and “Frank” themselves. We also hear from Lily – a young woman whose husband has disappeared as well as enjoy a series of flashbacks to the summer of 1993 where we follow a family on their summer holiday. All the different segments blend nicely together to produce a story that really kept my interest. I “knew” from piecing the puzzle together who “Frank” really was – or did I? I liked the way another possibility opened up and for most of the read I was never 100% sure, I kept changing my mind from one possibility to the other so just had to keep reading to see what would happen. I have read one Lisa Jewell book before which was a lot lighter than this one and so this read wasn’t quite what I was expecting. On the one hand it is a really romantic story with some lovely characters who you quickly grow attached to but on the other hand, there is a seam of darkness, suspense and danger running throughout the read. Definitely a 5 star read for me. I received a review copy from the publisher via Netgalley.
How to Find Love in a Book Shop - Veronica Henry - New Hardcover Book

Delightful read
What an absolutely delightful read this was! Emilia Nightingale has returned to Peasebrook to take over the helm of Nightingale Books following the death of her father in this story stuffed with romance, friendships and books, books, books. The shop itself is everyone’s idea of the perfect bookshop; old fashioned with shelves crammed with every book imaginable where people go because they are assured of a warm welcome and a listening ear. There are some very sad and moving times ahead as we follow Emilia through the days and weeks following her father’s death but it is also an extremely uplifting story. We follow the fortunes of various people connected with the shop as they all, in different ways, find love in a bookshop. The characters are all very warm people, lovely to read about in this book that just oozes romance and love. Some of their stories are longer than others and one in particular really does take you right to the wire before its conclusion. It is a lovely read, one that you can get really lost in and which leaves you with a warm fuzzy glow when you reach “The End”. I received a review copy from the publisher via Netgalley.
The Trespasser French, Tana

The Tresspasser
I received a review copy from the publisher via Netgalley. The Dublin Murder Squad series is one that I am thoroughly enjoying, even though I am reading them out of sequence. That doesn’t matter though – because each can be read as a standalone with a different protagonist in each one. Having said that, we once again join forces with Conway and Moran who we last met in The Secret Place, but this time everything is told from Antoinette Conway’s point of view. We follow the pair as they are assigned to investigate what should be an open and shut murder case – but is it? I did find the story a little slow to grab my attention. It wasn’t until about the half way mark that it really picked up pace, but when it did – it really gripped me from that point on. If you are finding it a bit slow, stick with it, because it really does turn into a corker of a read. Ultimately, it is a solid detective read, with a complex well thought out plot line and enough original twists and turns to keep you guessing. After The Secret Place, it was nice to get inside Antoinette’s head and discover how her mind worked especially in relation to the problems she faced every day at work – the prejudice, sexism and bullying in the workplace. We got to know her in a way that we missed out on last time around and she comes across as much more human. I am guessing that if the author has plans for another Dublin Murder Squad book then we may not see Antoinette next time around, but personally I would love to see more of her!
