disapointingly inefective
7 of 12 found this helpful I write this reluctantly. I am sensitive to Chlorine, and dislike the taste of it. Having run 6 blatches through, (twice as many as suggested by Manufacturer) the reduction in chlorine, both taste and smell, could not be discerned. There was also a "metallic" taste to the water from the Brita, which did not appear prominent in the tap water as drawn.
I then cleaned the unit, and repeated twice, replacing the cartridge filter each time, both times rinsing filter and discarding initial batches. There was again no discernible improvement.
I then tried running a batch of store bought bottled water, (Glaceau Smart water) through the Britta unit. This again came out with a metallic taste which was not apparent in the water added to the reservoir. I gave this water both as the untouched Smart bottle and filtered through the unit in separate glasses to 2 other people as a blind test, both of whom remarked on the metallic tang to one glass (the Brita filtered water), and chose not to drink it.
have spoken to other Brita (jug) owners who have said theirs are not being used either.
have purchased a small DeSal plant, which does do the job beautifully.
Sad, because it is compact appealing and nicely engineered, just doesn't begin to do what it says.
