Genuine Go System Adapt Gas Conversion for Trangia stove GS2000 CE Approved
20 May, 2022
Excellent kit for the money
As a long time fan of my Trangia stove, a gas upgrade was something I’d long been promising myself, but the price was always an obstacle. When I found this adapter on sale for less than half the price of most models, I was initially sceptical but the reviews all seemed positive, so I took a punt. I’m pleased to report that it seems to have been the right move. The adapter works brilliantly, the heat output is as good as any gas camp stove I’ve used and boils water in a fraction of the time the meths burner takes. The build quality appears very good, and the adapter (in its storage bag) fits very neatly in the kettle of my 27 series stove (the smaller model). If I have one criticism, the control valve could maybe offer better modulation of the heat output; there is only about half a turn between “off” and “full blast”, but if the main job of your stove is to boil water rather than simmer a risotto then this is no major issue. (I should say that I don’t know how other adapters perform on this last point, but I often made use of the adjustable simmer cap that Trangia burners come with.) In summary, it works well for the money, and I would recommend it to any Trangia owners out there who are fed up with the smell of meths at mealtimes.

Shamen, The : In Gorbachev We Trust CD
09 Mar, 2018
Acid rock meets acid house...
In the late 80s, many indie kids discovered the emerging rave scene as their fave bands dabbled in the indie dance scene around Madchester. Fans of the Shamen had already been there for a while. Like New Order, whose interest in the club scene in America had seen them fuse their own blend of guitar pop and electronic, the Shamen"s early influences of psychedelia and acid rock had melded with their former careers in psychiatric nursing and associated familiarity with consciousness-altering substances to prime them to latch on to acid house from the off. This album is a stepping stone from the psych-guitar rock of their debut Drop to the techno tinged delights of EnTact, with all the samples, drum machine flourishes, and squelchy synth lines that would later become clichéd, but here have a joyous freshness and almost naivete. At the time it was released, you could still throw about a lyric which mentioned ecstasy without everyone seeing the drug reference. (Compare that to Ebenezer Good a few years down the line...) Time may not have been too kind to some of this record, and the subsequent saturation of the genre with pale imitations might have dulled its impact, but the venom directed at avaricious and hypocritical US evangelists still resonates now. In the era of Putin and the impending return to cold War posturing, the optimism of the glasnost era is sorely missed.
