Old Style Vicks Units are Great
1 of 1 found this helpful This is the 'old style' with easier handle placement for carrying the filled water container. 'New style' has larger cap so I guess people like being able to reach inside to clean if needed, but removing the handle was dumb.
Warm steam vaporizers seem to increase humidity without seeming as cold as ultrasonic types- and adjuvents can be added to stream (like Vicks, fragrant oils, etc.)
I have a couple of these and they only use 250 watts - of course that's a lot more than ultrasonic models- but the additional heat is not wasted.

Great for Skating Growing Grandsons!
My grandson needed his own skates as the rental ones were always of varying quality. Also, he is growing pretty fast (as kids do), so I'd hoped to get some that would 'bridge' his growing foot size for a while- till we see if investing in more expensive hockey skates is really worthwhile.
So far, he loves the skates and after getting them sharpened is making much faster progress in his skating. Another advantage is he doesn't need much help to put them on and adjust them as needed during skating- as any liner-type skate will conform to the foot and need tightening while skating.
Overall, these appear to be just what is needed for now and for the price I'd say they're a good value. They seem to be made well enough to hold up as long as they will be needed but we'll have to see. The size adjustment is simple and should be no problem, but again we haven't really needed it yet at this point.

Nice Features, Limited Reliability?
The FEATURES of this kids camera are impressive and some make it UNIQUE/RARE (+) in the Kid's Cam field right now: 1-Adequate RESOLUTION
2-Additional memory STORAGE
3+FLASH option if needed
4-Overall STURDY construction
5+TV/VIDEO output in addition to USB/PC (few kids cams have this- WHY not?)
6-Decent AA (not AAA) battery capacity
7-VIDEO capability (at lower resolution)
8+FUN real editing/effects ability (on camera)
BUT... there are QUALITY problems with some of the controls- over time, as things wear and evidently even on new units in some cases. Check YouTube.
When the controls of this USED camera began to 'misbehave' it was very confusing for me- pretty much a middle-aged 'gadget guy'... It would have been totally unacceptable for a 3-5yr old's first experience with a camera. Controls on a Kid's Cam MUST be rock solid and consistent!
These now cost $50-90 NEW (Fall 2011). This kind of eventual failure might be acceptable if it lasts a YEAR or so but for eBay I would make sure there is a RETURN policy if bought USED- even if someone says 'Barely Used', etc. and even NEW units might have defects.
Life's a gamble and if you get a camera that works perfectly for a year or so I'm sure any kid would love this camera.
If Vtech spent a little more $$$ on QUALITY CONTROL and reliability they would have a clear WINNER in the Kid's Cam market...
