Expand Your Barbie Doll Accessories Collection
Since launching in 1959, Barbie Dolls and their accessories have become the jewel in the Mattel crown. As well as offering fun for children, Barbie accessories have become valuable additions to enthusiast's collections. eBay lists numerous Barbie Doll accessories at a range of price points.
Upkeep and maintenance of Barbie Doll accessories?
Barbie doll accessories can be small and fragile and therefore require a certain degree of care to keep in perfect condition. Items like Barbie handbags and Barbie clothing will not need quite as much special care and attention, but all accessories should only be cleaned using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. To ensure that collectables hold their value, store them in dry, sealed containers in a cool, dust-free environment.
Do Barbie accessories include vehicles?
As well as horses, bicycles, boats, and flying machines, Barbie Doll accessories have a wide range of cars. These include, but are not limited to:
- 1962: Austin-Healey 3000 MkII. The first Barbie car to be produced, this 18-inch vehicle can fetch upwards of £400 in mint condition.
- 1970: Country Camper. One of two campers designed for Barbie, the original release included a range of additional accessories, including a tent, sleeping bags, and picnic utensils.
- 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: With a hot pink interior, this sports car came with working headlights. A 1991 release of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2 also had working lights.
- 2004 Cali Girl Chevrolet SSR: Produced in a choice of colours, yellow or blue, the SSR came with a fully functional, full-sized CD player in the boot.
Limited edition acessories
The Barbie Ferrari F1 car was custom-built from the body of a 1/6, true-scale remote control car with the electrics removed. Only available in 2004 at the annual International Barbie Doll Collections Convention in Chicago, this is a unicorn accessory for Barbie collectors.
Are all Barbie accessories collectables?
One of the most interesting aspects of the Barbie doll and accessory collecting community is the reverence paid to both new and used condition items. A 1960's Barbie vehicle in mint condition, particularly if it comes in its original packaging, will be more expensive than a new release from Mattel. In this sense, every Barbie Doll or Barbie Doll accessory has the potential to be a collectable.
