Braid Hair Extensions: Add Thickness and Volume to Your Hair

Braid hair extensions help add volume, length, and/or style to your hair. They work on all types of hair: black, blonde, brown, etc. Browse the range of hair extensions on eBay to find braid extensions that suit your style.

Common braid hair extension styles
  • Box braid: This three-strand braid method adds maximum thickness to your hair, and usually has precise triangular or square partings.
  • Faux loc: Unlike a box braid, a faux loc doesn’t lock your natural hair since the extension hair is wrapped around the already braided real hair.
  • Cornrow: This three-strand braiding style is small and helps build intricately detailed looks.
  • Tree braid: Natural hair is micro-braided at its root with extension hair close to halfway, and the bottom half is left unbraided and loose.
  • Crochet: Natural hair is cornrowed first and then an extension, with the help of a crochet hook, is appended to the braid.
Do braid hair extensions work only with curly hair?

Braid hair extensions are versatile and can be used on different types of hair, irrespective of colour, texture, or form. However, when working with straighter hair, make sure the braiding is tight so that the extension hair doesn’t slip out. Kindly note "tighter braiding" doesn’t mean a tight attachment that pulls on the original hair, causing traction alopecia. Tightness, in this context, basically means braiding the extension tightly to the hair without hurting the hair’s roots.

Are braid hair extensions available in different colours?

Braid extensions can be done in multiple colours and styles, including jet black, browns, ombres, dip-dyes, auburn, lowlights, pastels, highlights, honey blondes, greens, caramel blondes, blues, platinum blonde, and copper. These colours are not confined to specific skin tones. However, you should consider wearing colours that are right for the occasion. For instance, don’t wear bright blue or green hair extensions to your workplace.

Preparing your hair for braid hair extensions

Braid hair extensions are not designed to work with thin, fragile hair. Use these extensions only if you are sure about your hair’s health. To ensure your hair works great with the extension hair, consider doing the following before braiding:

  • Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo to get rid of dirt and any product residue.
  • A good hair protein treatment followed by some moisturizing would be ideal as it helps your hair remain hydrated throughout the period that the extension stays in.
  • Get rid of hair tangles as you cannot braid hair extensions to tangled hair.
  • If you have any scalp problems, such as dryness, itchiness, dandruff, or any fungal infection, address it first before braiding hair.
