Antique Doors

Antique Doors

The doors in your home need to be functional, preventing draughts and providing privacy and security. They can also be highly ornate, adding character to your rooms and greatly impacting the overall look and feel of your property.

Hanging a new door is a relatively simple task yet is often overlooked when redecorating. Whether you're restoring a period property to its former glory or are looking to reinvigorate a particular room, there are hundreds of antique doors to choose from.

You can also find several antique front doors that will make your home stand out from your neighbours' in a range of sizes and finishes. Choose from metals including brass, bronze, copper and cast iron plus mahogany, oak and pine woods.

Whether you prefer art deco, art nouveau, Edwardian or renaissance styles you'll be able to find the door that's right for your home.

Victorian Doors

When browsing Victorian doors you'll notice that four panels were typical of the period and that some front door styles feature intricate stained glass panelling.

Victorian doors tended to be made from cheaper softwood painted and treated to look like hardwood. Ledge and brace doors also hail from this era and you can find versions suitable for internal or external hanging.

Edwardian Doors

Edwardian front doors are similar to Victorian front doors and feature a combination of panelling and glass to allow more light to enter the home. Styles typical of the period feature art nouveau and neo-Georgian glass with the most popular colours being green and red.

Georgian Doors

Early Georgian doors tend to feature six panels without glass, however, later doors created towards the Victorian period can feature semi-circle fanlights at the top.

Other Antique Doors

Whether you're planning to base your new door choice on style, period or colour you may come across some slightly more unusual designs that will throw the cat among the pigeons. Why not make a dramatic statement with an antique gothic church door? Choose from beautiful reclaimed wood and rectangular or arched shapes with cast iron detailing.
