• Vintage c1890 ~ "R & J Beck" "10737" Brass Microscope with Case #19

    This brass microscope by "R. & J. Beck" has its' fitted mahogany case and two eyepieces and four objectives. There are no cracks or chips to the brass that I can find and the microscope has retained much of its' original lacquering, however, there are the usual scuffs, marks and scratches, mainly to the stage, that you expect from a well used item of this age. The drawertube mechanism moves up and downs smoothly and the fine focus wheel appears to be working. The base is marked "R. & J. Beck, London & Philadelphia, 10737". The objective turret turns as it should and the double sided mirror has no chips or cracks, however, there is a little loss of silvering to one side. Two of the objectives have their cans and are marked "R & J Beck".

    This fabulous brass microscope by "Smith Beck & Beck" of London is their "Universal" model. There are no cracks or chips to the brass body or base that I can find. The microscope has retained much of its' lacquer and black japanned finish, however, there are the usual wear and use marks mainly to the base and stage, that you expect from a well used item of this age. The drawertube mechanism moves up and down smoothly. The microscope pivots sideways as it should and and the screw on to of the pillar holds it in place when tightened. The articulated condenser on the side of the satge is present is present and works fine. The stage has its' double spring. There is one one objective and one eypiece. There are no cracks or chips to the double sided mirror, but there is spotting.

The microscope has retained much of its' original black japanned lacquering and the brass also has its' original lacquered finish, however, there are some losses to the stage, as well the usual marks and scratches that you expect from a well used item of this age. The makers details and model are on either side of the stand. The drawtube mechanism moves up and down smoothly and the fine focus wheel appears to be working, the rotating objective turret works well. There are three objectives with their cans, two of the objectives and one can are marked "Watson". The double sided mirror is free from any cracks or chips, however, there is a little light spotting.

The fine focus wheel appears to work. The mirror is free from any chips or cracks. It has on eypiece and two an unmarked objectives, one is in a "Baker" can. The microscope measures approximately 35 cm (13 3/4 inches) tall. It has its' original case, this has a "C.

The mirror and one of the stage clips is missing. The microscope has an unnamed objective. The microscope measures approximately 27 cm (10 3/4 inches) tall. It has its' original wooden case has a little damage to the back at the bottom.
