Sweet dreams in your perfect duvet

Wrapping up warm and cosy in a duvet at bedtime is the perfect way to ensure a good night's sleep. The range of duvets available means that there are styles, sizes and designs to suit every type of sleeper.

What size duvet

The first thing to ascertain is what size of duvet is needed, but it's not always as obvious as choosing the duvet size that matches the bed frame. Anyone who tosses and turns a lot in their sleep might benefit from getting a duvet slightly bigger than their normal bed size, so a king or super king size duvet, so there's less chance of the duvet slipping off in the night and leaving them feeling chilly.

Smaller single or double duvets might be better for someone who tends to feel too warm in bed so only wants the minimum amount of coverage.

Tog ratings

Selecting a year-round, summer or winter duvet will also help ensure sweet dreams. The higher a tog rating, the warmer it will be, perfect for finding the right duvet for the season, sleeper's preference and climate. Lighter summer duvets can be around 4.5 or 7.5 togs, whereas winter duvets can be as high as 10.5 or even 13.5 togs. Adaptable duvets that clip apart to offer summer and winter tog ratings are perfect for ensuring the ideal temperature in bed all year round.

Duvet types

Finally, the filling of the duvet is very important too. Natural fillings like goose or duck feathers and down are naturally very insulating, while cotton and silk duvets are very breathable. However, modern synthetic anti-allergy fibre fillings are perfect for anyone with allergies as they reduce the risk of exposure to dust mites. Similarly, good quality pillows will help aid a good night's sleep and are available in a range of matching fillings.
