Fishing Wading Boots

Fishing Wading Boots

There's a huge range of quality fishing gear available, from fishing rods and lines to fishing wading boots. Wading boots allow you to stand deeper in a stream or river so you can get closer to the fish.

If you are fly fishing , then you may need to get yourself a pair of fishing wading boots. You'll need to have a pair of waders to go with them so that you're kept dry when you decide that you want to walk out deeper into the water so you can cast your line further. In addition to your waders and wading boots, you'll need to think about what layers and other clothing to wear to keep you warm when standing in the cold water. Think about base layers, gloves and hats, jacket and wading socks too.

Fishing wader types

There are two basic types of waders. There are those in which the wader and boot are attached to each other, which are fine if you do not need to walk far. However, if you need to walk any distance, you can wear what are called 'stockingfoot' waders and a separate pair of wading boots over the top.

Wading boots are designed to be worn in water for a long period of time and provide protection for your ankles as well as giving you security when walking on uneven river beds.

You'll find that there are two main types of sole used for wading boots. Felt is the traditional material and gives fantastic grip on rock and gravel (especially good on smooth riverbed rock), although it's not so good on muddy banks or on snow. However, you can add some metal studs to give needed grip. Today's alternative are soles made from rubber or plastic compounds. These give much better grip on muddy banks and are especially good if you need to walk a long way in your wading boots.
