Pushchairs and Prams

When you have a baby, pushchairs and prams are an essential piece of kit. Choosing the right one is an important decision that needs careful consideration. You will need to take several points into account when making your choice.

A travel system

One of the most versatile types of pram, travel systems can be used from the newborn stage onwards. The travel system usually has a detachable car seat that can be removed from the car and fixed to the pram for portability. This is especially handy, if your baby is asleep and you don't wish to wake them up when you arrive at your destination. You can find travel systems from Graco, Silver Cross, iCandy and iSafe, amongst others.

A lightweight buggy

Ideal for when you're out and about, a lightweight buggy is easy to fold and lighter to manoeuvre than a travel system. They are especially useful when using public transport. Lightweight buggies have several handy accessories that are sometimes included or may be bought separately, depending on the model, such as a footmuff. Designed to keep your baby warm in cold weather, a foot muff resembles a zip-up sleeping bag. A rain hood can usually be folded up small and unrolled as needed to safely cover your baby if it rains. You can choose a lightweight buggy from brands such as McLaren, Cosatto and Chicco.

A pram

A versatile system that accommodates one, two or even three babies or small children, traditional prams come in a variety of styles. Some can be folded, some are hooded and some can accommodate a baby lying down as well as sitting up. MaxiCosi, Mamas & Papas and Silver Cross all design a range of prams.

A jogger

A lightweight and compact buggy with an emphasis on good suspension, a jogger is typically an all-terrain model. Some are especially light and suitable for city life, enabling you to jog or walk briskly whilst pushing your baby, without causing too much movement or friction to your child. Joggers are available from brands such as Hauck, Phil and Teds and iCandy, to name a selection.
