Mattresses
Mattresses come in many different sizes, ranging from 3ft mattresses designed to fit a single bed to 6ft mattresses that fit super king sized beds. Mattress types range from memory foam and pocket sprung to orthopaedic, which is designed to eliminate persistent aches and pains.
Memory foam mattresses
Memory foam mattresses are ideal for those who enjoy sleeping on a softer surface. They respond to heat and pressure, which means they change shape when you lie down and return to form when you stand up. Memory foam gently moulds around the body and therefore provides a unique sleeping experience for each person. It also helps to evenly distribute your body weight.
Pocket sprung mattresses
While conventional mattresses tend to have linked springs, pocket sprung mattresses have individual springs that only move when they are impacted. The independent movement of each spring helps to reduce the overall bounce and creaking noise of a mattress. Sleeping surfaces of this kind also help to distribute body weight evenly as the springs follow the curves of the body.
Orthopaedic mattresses
In contrast to memory foam and pocket sprung mattresses, which have a soft surface, orthopaedic mattresses are designed to be firmer. They help to relieve chronic aches and pains by preventing the spine from sinking into the mattress and bending into an unnatural position. This can reduce pain throughout the body, meaning orthopaedic mattresses are often used by those who often find sleeping uncomfortable. They are also ideal for anyone who prefers resting on a firm surface.
Hypoallergenic mattresses
Hypoallergenic mattresses are specifically designed to prevent allergens from penetrating the mattress material. They prohibit the multiplication of dust mites, bacteria, fungus and other microorganisms and are often recommended for those who suffer with skin and breathing conditions such as eczema and asthma. Hypoallergenic mattresses come in various styles and some have a firm, orthopaedic surface. They can be made from memory foam or pocket springs.
